Haiti Earthquake Left Thousand Dead

Haiti earthquake death toll rises to 2,200, more than 300 people still missing. According to USA Today news, The previous figure had been 2,189 on last Wednesday. Haiti Civil Protection Agency said on Sunday that 12,268 people were injured and nearly 53,000 houses were destroyed by the August 14 quake. 

Search and rescue workers are continuing to pick through the jumbled mounds of the debris left by the powerful 7.2 magnitude quake, but hopes of finding survivors were fading by the hour.

Haitian authorities said nearly 600,000 people were directly affected by the disaster and are in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.
